First, Happy New Year to everyone! I hope 2012 is just as good, if not better, than 2011.
Although I still have a couple leads on some rare Justin Duchscherer cards, it's just a waiting game at this point. I continue to check eBay, Check Out My Cards, Beckett, and other websites once a day to see if any Justin Duchscherer cards I need have surfaced. However, I don't anticipate anything new for a bit. Hopefully, one of my leads will come through and provide me with a cool Justin Duchscherer mailday soon.
In the meantime, I have been expanding my Rickey Henderson and Pete Maravich collections. I recently purchased and received the Rickey Henderson 2011 Topps Diamond Giveaway Die-Cut, which can be seen here. That is a cool addition to the collection. I still need to inventory approximately 50-75 Rickey Henderson cards before I continue purchasing some of his older cards. I'd like to go year-by-year, beginning with 1981, to collect as many as I can. Rickey Henderson has some hardcore collectors with deep pockets, but I'm content with quantity over quality in his collection. I will also be looking to add a few Pete Maravich cards to my collection later this month.
As a kid, I was a huge fan of Hank Gathers. I always looked forward to watching Loyloa Marymount play. They played a very entertaining brand of basketball, routinely scoring well over 100 points in a 40 minute collegiate game. After his on-court death, I tried to find cards of Hank Gathers, but he had no official cards. I did find a 1990 Roundball Press card of his (not listed in Beckett), but I stupidly traded it for god knows what back in the early 1990's. It took me nearly 20 years to track down that card, but I did so just a few months ago. I'll have a scan up of it shortly.
My mailday, though, surrounds a very cool piece of Hank Gathers memorabilia. I stumbled across an individual selling Fleer's 2000-2001 Greats of the Game Hank Gathers Proof Sheet! The card was never made, but the proof sheet is super cool. Here is the actual Artwork Approval Form, followed by the card proof. These two scans show, up close, the front and back of the card that was never made. I am very excited with this find, and it turned out to be quite an awesome non-Duchscherer mailday!
